Who are the top 30 charity CEOs on social media?

Howard Lake | 22 November 2013 | News

LinkedIn has its index of the 30 best CEOs who use social media. Noting there was no charity sector version, digital communications consultants Zoe Amar and Matt Collins set out to create one.
The results were announced last night at an event for charity leaders hosted by the Brook and sponsored by The Access Group.
Their report on the top 30 charity CEOs on social media is designed to celebrate and showcase best practice amongst charity CEOs. The list was drawn up from 117 nominations which were judged by a panel of experienced charity digital staff, namely Simon Blake, CEO of Brook, Lucy Caldicott, Director of Fundraising at CLIC Sargent, Danielle Atkinson, Head of Merlin Fundraising integration at Save the Children and Kirsty Stephenson, Digital Strategist at Child’s i Foundation.
The top 30 are listed, appropriately enough, in infographic format.

Social media guide for charity leaders

As as result of their research, Amar and Collins have published a free guide to help charity leaders use social media more effectively. It includes advice from digital thought leaders such as Simon Blake, CEO of Brook, Alex Swallow, CEO of the Small Charities’ Coalition and Ben Matthews, Head of Communications at FutureGov.
Zoe Amar said:

“The breadth of charities represented in the top 30 shows how a growing number of CEOs are using social media as a tool to build support for their organisations in a challenging climate.”

Matt Collins added:

“Whilst there is much to celebrate, we know from our work that some charity leaders are understandably still nervous about getting started with social media. Our guide is here to help them”.
