The Small Charities Coalition has launched the Britiain’s Best Volunteer award, designed to recognise those who volunteer to help small, local charities, community groups and not-for-profit organisations.
With support from charity insurance specialist Markel UK, the Award includes a cash prize of £1,250 for the winner to donate to a charity or charities of their choice, plus a personal holiday prize voucher worth £1,000. Runners up will receive £250 for a charity of their choice and a personal prize of an iPad mini.

Nominate online

Nominations can be made online by members of the public from now until 21 February 2014.
A shortlist will then be drawn up by a judging panel consisting of Alex Swallow, CEO of Small Charities Coalition, Michael Scott, Investing in Volunteers Manager at NCVO, and Andy Partington, Director of Markel UK. After that the public will be able to vote online for the winner from 3 to 21 March.
Nominees must be over 18, and must be volunteers for a small charity or community group , namely one with an income of less than £1 million. Volunteers may hold any position within the organisation providing they are unpaid.
Alex Swallow at Small Charities Coalition explained why the award was needed. He said:
“The great work of smaller charities can often slip under the radar. It’s thanks to volunteers all over the UK that these smaller charities and organisations can continue to thrive, so we wanted to highlight and recognise the efforts of these outstanding individuals.”
