Seafarers UK urges maritime businesses to get stripey

Maritime businesses are being encouraged to dress like a sailor and ‘get stripey’ to raise funds for Seafarers UK, the grantmaking charity that supports those in need across the Merchant Navy, Fishing Fleets, Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
The inaugural ‘Get stripey’ day will take place on Friday 16 May. Those who participate are encouraged to donate £1 each if they wear stripes to work on that day.
Nigel Shattock, Director of Fundraising & Communications at Seafarers UK, said:

Get stripey is an incredibly simple and fun idea and we really hope that staff at all levels and in any role will want to get involved, as little or as much as they can.
“People can come to work dressed in a smart stripey top, a pair of stripey socks or perhaps a very loud stripey skirt or tie. They might want to be subtle and just paint stripes on their nails, or make more effort and even bake something stripey to sell. Basically anything stripey goes, even hair!”

Although Seafarers UK last year paid grants totalling £2.5 million to 84 charities that helped more than 150,000 people in need, it received bids for twice that amount.
The direct mail campaign to five thousand maritime business contacts has been supported by Lloyd’s List and Lloyd’s List Intelligence.
