The Institute of Legacy Management is considering merging with the Institute of Fundraising. The move, which would see the ILM become a Special Interest Group of the IoF, has the backing of the two organisations’ Directors and Board of Trustees respectively. The decision will be made, however, by members of the Institute of Legacy Management who are being asked to vote for the move at an Extraordinary General Meeting.

If the merger goes ahead, the Institute of Legacy Management‘s name and branding will be retained, as will its annual conference. Members would continue to have access to specialised training courses, CiCLA, and online resources via designated ILM web pages.

Equally, it would lead to the integration of ILM best practice guidance into the Code of Fundraising Practice, resulting in one Code that covers both legacy fundraising and management.

Mark Astarita, Chair of the IoF, said:

“The proposed merger is an exciting prospect for ILM and IoF members and, if approved, will properly bring legacy management within the wider fundraising community… We hope in the long term this will lead to greater revenue for charities through a more coordinated and joined up approach to legacy fundraising.”

Helen Hoare, chair of ILM, added:

“The proposal is for ILM to be integrated into the IoF as a unique Special Interest Group.  The new structure will allow ILM to deliver more to our members with greater efficiency and focus and, most importantly, without losing our strong sense of community.”
