Stephen Lloyd memorial award announced

Charity law specialists BWB Charitable Incorporated Organisation have announced that a memorial award to lawyer Stephen Lloyd will be launched in 2015.

The award, also supported by friends and admirers of Lloyd, will reflect his commitment to innovation in tackling social issues by supporting and encouraging the development of practical, sustainable ways of achieving social change.

Stephen Lloyd died in August this year in a boating accident in Wales. He was 63.

He helped and advised many charities and charitable initiatives, and is particularly remembered for helping establish the legal framework for the Community Interest Company.

Harnessing support for the award

The organisers of the Stephen Lloyd Awards are seeking assistance from individuals and organisations who can offer practical, pro bono support for the award, together with finance from social investors and philanthropists.

Phillip Kirkpatrick, deputy managing partner and joint head of charity and Social Enterprise at Bates Wells Braithwaite, said:

“Stephen Lloyd was an enthusiastic developer of new ideas, the Community Interest Company perhaps being his most enduring legacy and a typical example of him identifying a need, thinking around the problem, finding an innovative solution and driving through the required change.

“The awards are about creating, more than celebrating, success. They will bring together funders and committed sector experts in various fields in order to deliver the support ground breaking projects off the ground to deliver real social change.”
