More Christmas 2014 fundraising appeals

Howard Lake | 21 December 2014 | Blogs

We’ve got more Christmas 2014 fundraising appeals and ideas to share with you. Have you read our first 20 ways to fundraise at Christmas? If so, read on for more inspiration.

1. Double your donations

As well as the annual The Big Give Christmas Challenge, online fundraising platform Global Giving was running a matched giving campaign. ColaLife needs to get 30 donations of $10 or more by 31 December to unlock a bonus donation of $3,000.

2. Bleak midwinter

Unicef Sweden have presented a shocking and depressing video about the world’s 25 million refugee children. The video suggests that not even Santa Claus can reach them. Luckily Unicef can, if it is given the funding to do so.

3. Corporate partnerships

Accommodation website LateRooms.com is getting fully engaged in supporting Shelter this Christmas. As well as donating £5 for every booking received during December, it is also encouraging its clients themselves to donate via the homelessness charity’s Slippers for Christmas campaign.
They are invited to donate £2 to the charity via a text to give number and take a photo of their cosy slippers and share it with the hashtag #SlippersforShelter. One participant will win a £1,000 hotel stay via the company.

4. A merry Christmas

Golden Age of Cinema calendar for 2015
Christmas is a good time to sell calendars for the new year. One group of older people have produced a humorous charity calendar in which they dress up as cinema icons.
January’s pictured depicts Star Wars, February Dirty Dancing, and July Grease.
The photos were professionally produced, with green-screen backgrounds etc.
You can view all the images from The Golden Age of Cinema online and of course purchase it. All proceeds go back into the retirement village to run activities and events for the residents featured in the calendar and their friends.

5. Benefit from creative agencies

One Good Thing by The Good Agency

One Good Thing, The Good Agency’s Christmas giving campaign in 2014

Plenty of companies send charity Christmas cards, but some go further and embrace a more social method of promoting a charity and donating to them.
This year The Good Agency used its Christmas cards to invite people to do ‘one good thing‘, and to share that on their website with a photo or video. For every good deed shared, the company committed to buying a Christmas dinner for a Southwark resident who would otherwise be on their own. The donation will go to Blackfriars Settlement, a charity near the agency’s offices in London.
The ‘scratch me’ sections incidentally revealed suggestions for good deeds. I was hoping for some scratch-n-sniff mulled wine…
Similarly, fundraising consultant Roger Lawson is running his annual Christmas quiz. He will donate £1 to SOFII for every entry into the competition and this year you could win £50 for your own nominated charity too.

6. Children’s Christmas story book

The RNLI has published a Christmas-themed story book for children. The Big Christmas Rescue is a personalised book that puts your child at the heart of a rescue, along with Santa, Rudolph and a lifeboat crew.
Children’s TV presenter Chris Jarvis, who co-presents CBeebies’ ‘Show Me Show Me’, visited Tower lifeboat station in London to give a special reading of the book.
