Localgiving to run match-funding campaign for London school children

Howard Lake | 19 June 2015 | News

Online giving platform Localgiving is to run a matched giving campaign during July to raise funds for charities working with vulnerable school children in London during the summer holidays.
The matched funding comes from The Childhood Trust, which will be matching at random £10 donations made during the campaign to any of over 30 London-based charities.
The Childhood Trust Summer Smiles campaign will match 500 £10 donations from 7 – 28 July 2015.

Summer Give campaign

This matched giving campaign follows The Childhood Trust’s successful one-week matched funding campaign The Summer Give, which last month raised £527,000 for a similar group of London charities.
The Trust says that 40% of children in London are living in poverty. For the most vulnerable of these children, the summer holidays can often be a very lonely time lacking in stimulation and, in some cases, a proper meal. The charities taking part in the Childhood Trust Summer Smiles campaign are all delivering programmes that will provide disadvantaged children across the capital with some stability over the summer holidays.
The campaign is a pilot for future collaborations.
Lisa Gagliani MBE, CEO of The Childhood Trust said:

“We believe every child in London deserves the possibility of a happy, safe childhood. We also recognise that there is more demand for local grassroots community providers during the summer and that volunteer fundraisers are also often less active due to their own holidays. We wanted to do something to stimulate modest donations to great causes by local people, for children in their own communities.”

Stephen Mallinson Chief Executive of Localgiving, added:

“Child poverty is clearly a hugely important issue, so it’s great to be collaborating with the Childhood Trust to run this campaign… Match funding has proven to be incredibly successful at stimulating online donations, so we’re really hoping to see the Summer Smiles campaign raise awareness and generate extra support for these vital grassroots organisations this July.”

Donations that can qualify for the match giving campaign should be made via the Summer Smiles section of Localgiving from 7-28 July 2015.
