US technology news service ZDNet is encouraging readers to give to charity via the Internet. Editorial Director Jesse Birst has written an editorial which features how to find a charity online, how to donate computers to a charity, how to shop and give online, and how to give creatively.

Bizarre fundraising plan to pursue Rushdie 'fatwa'

The fatwa decreeing the murder of Salman Rushdie has been given fresh impetus by a bizarre fundraising plan reported in The Guardian. The plan "was reportedly devised by Islamic militia in the holy city of Mashhad, with backing from officials in the elite Revolutionary Guards," according to James Meeks in the Guardian.

Pell and Bales win second DMA Royal Mail Award

Telemarketing agency Pell and Bales have won the DMA Royal Mail Award for the Best use of Telemarketing for the second year running. The Award was made in recognition of their campaign with WWF (UK). Pell and Bales won the same award in 1998 for their work with IFAW.

NCVO and buy.co.uk relaunch savings site

The National Council for Voluntary Organisations and buy.co.uk have relaunched their cost-saving Web site. As reported by UK Fundraising in January 1999, the site helps charities cut costs on a wide range of items of everyday expenditure.

Tribute to Mandela

Charities Aid Foundation reports that Joan Armatrading has launched the Online Tribute to Nelson Mandela. Donations made via the site will be shared amongst charities working for the care and education of children, including UNICEF, Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and The Red Cross Children's Trust Hospital Trust.

Charities Aid Foundation features UK Fundraising in issue 13 of its Charity Netupdate published today. It calls this site "a leading portal for fundraisers."
