Over 80 people packed out the lecture theatre at York's National Railway Museum yesterday for the Institute of Fundraising North's regional group event on social media and fundraising.
Speakers included Steve Bridger, Chris Garrett, Nick Aldridge of eBay for Charity, Jonathan Waddingham of Justgiving (who sponsored the event), Beth Kanter (live from San Francisco via a very good Skype line), Alex Goldstein and Jacqui Darlow from Dog's Trust, and me, Howard Lake.
The event seemed to go very well, with lots of practical advice, discussion and inspiring ideas.
Several of us managed to keep up an active report on the lessons being shared via Twitter (I'd started using the hashtag #iofnorth in the run up to the event to start gathering related tweets). This was picked up and followed by people in the USA such as Marc A Pitman and John Haydon. The blizzard of Twitter reports was matched outside by real snow that meant that quite a few delegates had to leave before the end.
You can see how popular the tag '#iofnorth' became and who contributed most to that popularity at twopular.
For a while, it rose to eighth in the top 10 of most popular terms or tags on the whole of Twitter. In the jargon, it "trended". Quite an achievement, given that the top two terms were '#twestival' and 'twestival', the 180+ country event of the day.
So, for our international visitors, for everyone else at the event, and those who joined us online, here are some of the resources from yesterday. I'll be updating them throughout today, and you're welcome to add anything I've missed.
Finally, here's Graham Richards, who organised this popular event (using Twitter incidentally to source almost all of the speakers), receiving public thanks for his work on behalf of the Institute of Fundraising Yorkshire regional group:
