I came across this a while ago, but have been reminded of it again, so decided to embed the box on UK Fundraising.

If you ever doubted the time that people (ie. donors, volunteers, potential supporters) spend on the website, viewing or contributing content, sit back and watch the counters below roll.

It won't be long before this kind of tool becomes unnecessary, in the sense that we don't have counters for how many people are currently listening to the radio or watching TV.

But until then, and while I come across charities thinking that they don't have the time or money to invest in learning about and using social media, there's a role for this kind of gadget.

Scrolling comparisons for fundraising methods

I take your point. You'd have one indicator whirring round at great speed, and the other one chugging along more sedately.

You've given me an idea. It shouldn't be too hard to create a graphical illustration of the different methods of fundraising, and how much they bring in compared to each other, in a similar format to the above counters.

"In the last hour, individuals have given ABC to charity, companies have given XYZ..."

"In the last day, face-to-face fundraisers have raised ABC and legacy appeals have raised XYZ".

You could then add in number of volunteers recruited and other indicators.

You could even get clever and produce a tabbed version which let you see actual income ie. based on ROI, and lifetime value of donors/donations secured.

Any widget specialists out there want to create a fundraising version of Gary Hayes' creation?

Interesting that 'money

Interesting that 'money raised for UK charities via social networks compared to traditional channels isn't included'....
