CIMA North West Charity Forum

The event will cover two areas of fundraising - fundraising trading and the possibilities of making risks along with personal experiences in cash flow and survival techniques.

Venue: Barton Grange Hotel, Preston PR3 5AA
Cost: Free of charge, including refreshments
RSVP: 31 January 2011

Our first speaker will look at fundraising trading, primary purpose trading and mixed trading, and will discuss the related risks, taxation and the possibility of making losses. The second presentation will draw on the speaker’s personal experiences in four charity sectors, including social enterprises, and will cover cash flow problems, how they arose and successful techniques for survival. In addition there will be an opportunity to network with other members of the charity sector in the North West, and to share experiences and know-how.

Speakers:

Janet Slade has worked as a policy accountant with the Charity Commission since 2008. She was previously a founding partner of a Manchester-based accountancy practice which concentrated on supporting third sector organisations, and still carries out some independent examinations for them and is on the board of the Ecology Building Society.

Jack Christian, ACMA is a senior lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, and has a special interest in environmental and charity issues. Prior to his move to academia, Jack worked in industry and commerce for over 30 years, with roles including European financial controller for a US company, looking after companies in seven countries and North West regional finance manager for the Groundwork Trust.
