GIFT AID> Changes to Gift Aid

Afternoon all,

As everybody will probably be aware the rules on Gift Aid change on 1 April. In addition to the abolition of the £250 limit there will no longer be a requirement for the donor to sign anything.

What we are trying to establish and what does seem to be unclear is exactly what records we need to keep to satisfy the Inland Revenue in
case of inspection.

Our intention is that all donation forms will have a box added to them which will say "Please tick if you are not a tax payer." i.e all
donations that do not have the box ticked are tax reclaimable.

(We reckon that it is probably easier to check who is not a tax payer rather than who is!!)

For those who give over the phone then the existing form will have the box described above added to it so they will be asked if they are
not a tax payer.

The difficult area is unsolicited donations. Presumably we have to contact the donor and ask them whether or not they are a tax payer?
Another question we are unsure about is whether we have to recontact donors every time they give to check that their status as a tax payer
has not changed.

Any comments on these issues gratefully appreciated.
