Hi All,
Not sure if anyone else got excited about the above when reported both in the Guardian and UK Fundraising. On closer inspection
http://society.guardian.co.uk/futureforpublicservices/story/0,8150,608251,00
.html does not seem to be quite accurate.
The Inland Revenue website
http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/charities/euro-faq.htm seems to suggest we still need to get donors to sign up to claim giftaid. So collecting foreign coin in tins in Banks or other outlets etc won't result in giftaid being
able to be claimed, unless you can track the donor!
The Guardian article certainly seemed a really exciting possibility but now having looked at the Inland Revenue site it does not feel likely to add up to much.
Can anyone shed any light on this. I know a few big charities have tie ups with banks etc to collect currency as the new euro comes in. Guess we were all wondering if we were one step closer to breaking the link beween donor
and donation for giftaid purpose. That was the implied suggestion in the article does anyone know if this was just miss-reporting or was Gordon Brown being slightly less generous than we might have been led to believe?
