I work as a childcare development officer supporting out of school childcare settings in the wirral area. Recently the issue of out of school clubs fundraising and asking for donations has come up. The clubs can be run by voluntary management commitees, private providers or school governing body sub commitees. I'm pretty sure the clubs can fundraise and ask for donations from families that use the schools they are connected with i.e. the parents. However i'm unsure how the clubs stand when it comes to fundraising in the local community e.g. asking local businesses to sponsor the club in some way.
Can anyone clarify the law on this? Do these clubs need to be registered charities to fundraise in the community?
