Virtual land sale as a fundraiser

Submitted by Cristina on 30 April, 2008 - 12:02.

Hello, I work for an environmetal/wildlife organisation. We recently opened a new wildlife enclosure for an endangered species which links in with a project we run and fund overseas. I thought it would be a good idea to have a virtual land sale so that local companies could buy a virtual plot of land to 'virtually' improve the habitat and stop the decrease of the species' population.
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this? Not sure where to start.
Thanks in advance.

"Land Sale"

I think this has been done before, with rain forests. As long as you make it absolutely clear that there is no real title involved, it can work. It gives donors the feeling that they are directly helping the cause.

In terms of setting it up, it is (rather prosaically) just like any collecting leaflet - draw up a map showing the plots (not necessarily a real map) with a price per square which will cover your appeal target.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Sales?

Take care people might want to use virtual money too.

Not sure how a virtual land sale would work outside a computer game (buildings and items within online computer games do sell for real money).

I take it you've tried the usual sponsorship of individual creatures?
Rather than land, have you tried selling the idea of maintaining the habitat? Rather like some councils selling upkeep of roundabouts in return for advertising.
eg £500 for this lovely clearing to be maintained a year, with your advert appearing in our quarterly newsletter for the next 2 years....

Just an idea.
