We currently collect direct debit payments from paper instructions. I have read through lots of information from our bank, the software suppliers who currently collect our exisitng payments and our database software supplier but am still finding it a bit of a maze! I understand we need to apply for AUDDIS and paperless status but i haven't done this as I don't know what time scale I am looking at to get everything ready. If anyone has any information or knows where I can find a simple explantion of the steps involved I would really appreciate it.

Hi Coral, You have a number
Hi Coral,
You have a number of options:
1. Migrate your existing direct debits to Auddis and Paperless Direct Debit. There are some forms that need to be completed and a number of BACS files transmitted before you achieve a live date.
2. Set up a new Service User Number for Auddis and Paperless Direct Debit. As you already have a SUN, the bank will not have any problems sponsoring you for another one.
Both options above will take between 6-8 weeks.
As Rapidata is a BACS Approved Bureau, I have dealt with both options above so will be more than happy to discuss these in more detail with you should you wish. My number is 01293-524066.
Regards,
Scott

At least 6 weeks from start to finish, maybe more...but..
Hi Coral
The process will take you at least 6 weeks, maybe more. You will need to be AUDDIS registered and your bank will want to approve all of the telephone and online text you propose to use to set up Direct Debits
If you are doing PDD in house you will also need modulus checking software, such as Eiger BankWizard, to check bank account details and software to transmit Paperless Direct Debit instructions to AUDDIS (I think Raisers Edge can do this, if you use it, but I don't know about the cost).
So inhouse can be expensive and time consuming if you don't have a large number of DDs to process.
If you don't have a large number of DDs but want to take Direct Debits over the phone and online, why not look at CAF, who can set you up with one of their originator numbers and are already AUDDIS registered?
You can then get PDD in place in probably a month and for much less cost to begin with.

Hi, Coral
It sounds as if you've spoken to the key people who should be able to explain all this - basically, the bank and the software people.
Pending a different steer from a real expert on this topic, I'd counsel going back to the bank and heading up the food chain until you find someone who really knows what they're talking about, and can express it in English!
I haven't done this yet, but I may have to steer a client through the process soon, and this is exactly what I will do.
Cheers
Gerry
