Hi Everyone,
I'm new here. My partner has been working for a charity for a while now getting paid to go around places of work, pubs etc with a name the bear. We have found this to be very popular and raises alot of money for the charity.
I a wanting to do this for alot of charities as my full-time job with (all profits) going to charity.
I have approached many charities but they are not interested...please can you advise why?
Is it because i am not giving the full proceeds to them?
If that is the case then i would be out of alot of money not working and doing this full-time.I want to earn a small salary out of it too.
What will be the best way for me to do this?
Set up a professional fundraising business?
Set up a charity myself and help something close to my heart?
Please help...with any advice at all.
Thank you. x

Hi SMT,
Fundraising is actually a very regulated area and the charities that you are approaching may be concerned about someone approaching them with a 'freelance' idea. For example for commercial activities it is no longer allowed to say "all profits" to charity, you have to be able to state a notifiable amount so that the customer is very clear how much of their donation is reaching the charity.
Also, charities may be nervous about allowing someone who is new to fundraising to use their name as they may make mistakes as a result of their inexperience.
As your partner is already working for a charity as a fundraiser have you thought about doing the same? You would be paid a salary and have all the benefits of an employee - holiday and sick pay, learning and development opportunities and a supportive team. They might not necessarily run 'name the bear' as an activity, but they would certainly have some form of fundraising you could participate in.
I wouldn’t recommend setting up a new charity to fundraise for as it costs a lot of money to run a charity, and unless there is a real need that is not being met in your area you might struggle to get funding.
