I work for an international NGO with its headquarters in the USA and a much smaller UK office in London. To date, our joint website has been very US-centric – for example, you can donate on it in dollars but not in pounds without being diverted to justgiving.com. A new development team has recently been set up in the UK and we are employing a company to develop a UK-friendly version of the website. However, whilst our fundraising team is currently concentrating on major donors, trusts and events, and looks after a small but slowly growing pool of “lower level” donors as well as a handful who donate online despite the difficulties, we have very little collective experience of fundraising using online methods. Therefore I’d like to employ someone who does – and would appreciate any advice as to what attributes I should be looking for/what I should include in the job description. Thank you.

He may not thank me for saying this, but the top banana in this field is our own dear moderator, Howard Lake. As far as I'm concerned, he's the go-to guy for anything around the Third Sector/IT interface.
All I would say is, don't employ someone purely on their IT skills - you want someone who knows about the technology, but also understands about people and relationships - back to Ken Burnett and Relationship Fundraising, yet again.
Cheers
