I've been working for a charity for just over a year now as a Web Admin, and we have stuck with the same design (which was already in place when I started, and then adapted to a CMS) since then. Due to low levels of donations, I'm becoming increasingly concerned that the actual design of the site is effecting the trust possible donors have in the site. I'm wondering if the appearance itself may be responsible for this low level of donations, and would like to ask the opinion on a new design vs the old, and which you as a donor would be more comfortable in donating to.
I've suggested to my employer that we should phase in the new design, however I believe he is reluctant to move away from our current layout / design. We draw in some 200 visitors a day, however the conversion rate is very low.
For confidentiality reasons I would like to ask if some kind soul would be willing to take a look, and communicate with me via email with your opinion on this issue. I can provide the two URLs for comparison via email (JamesH@othala.co.uk).
Any insights that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. The situation is becoming pretty dire now!
Best regards,
James

Dear James,
I would be more than happy to look at the 2 designs in question. My dissertation encompassed Website Interactivity and Usability Design and whether or not design should come before usability. If these are the kind of areas you have in mind for assessment, then do send me the 2 links.
Thanks,
Jordan
