I wondered if people were aware of what seems to me to be a very innovative approach to fundraising designed for the recession being used by a campaign called "Just Four Quid" (www.justfourquid.com) to raise money for biomedical research into ME/CFS. The campaign is run via a daily blog which gives weekly tips on how to save money. The idea is that if one week's tip saves you a tenner, you might donate a fiver so that you're better off and so is the charity.
The blog is running for a year and is oriented towards little-and-often saving/giving, presumably so that it seems painless to the donors. The tips are a good mix of imaginative and fun moneysaving methods (such as "The Week of Charitable Bottoms" and "The Week of the Back of the Cupboard" - see the blog!) and more mainstream stuff such as selling old books and reviewing your household bills.
Also, because many of the people following the campaign are likely to be severely disabled, the moneysaving methods generally involve little physical effort (so no running jumble sales or going on marathons) which is unusually inclusive (I think) of people with serious medical conditions too ill to do conventional fundraising.
I think that other charities could usefully copy this strategy, or elements of it. What do others think?
