A supporter sent our fundraising department a cutting from their local newspaper of a sponsored cycle ride their son had organised for the charity.
When my assistant called the paper to ask for an electronic copy of the photo for our newsletter, she was told that there would be a charge £75.00! I called them back and they confirmed this saying it was "policy".
Although I know it's common to charge the public for images, this is the first time I have heard of a charity being asked to pay for a photo(of their own story).
I have always felt that it was a fairly equal trade - we give you a story; you gave us a picture.
Next time, we take the picture and charge them for usage...
