Third Sector had a very interesting article http://thirdsector.co.uk/news/Article/930354/Online-giving-fundraising-w... to review various third party fundraising sites.
Of course there's an alternative for charities and that's to have their own fundraising pages.
Charities like The Anthony Nolan Trust, Kidney Research UK and Sue Ryder Care provide personal fundraising pages and much more in their own brand to their fundraisers and donors.
They use a hosted platform which our company, AltaContact Ltd, runs. The charities own all their data and have control over the communication with fundraisers and donors.
We don't act as third party fundraiser. So donations don't come to us - they all go from the public directly to the charity. We just facilitate the process. That's different from possibly all the websites featured in the Third Sector.
Charities are realising that their brand should be pre-eminent. While third party branded fundraisers will have a role to play they are unlikely to be the preferred medium.
Charities can make the transformation now. Fundraiser/donor pressure on each charity will be a determining factor in their speed of change.
