Charity Ball - Tax concerns

Organising a Charity Ball in June 2010 with another family we then intend to distribute the funds to 3 or 4 charities.

Want to make sure we are not going to get hit for income tax on funds raised what is the best way to avoid this. tTe Charity Commmissioners tell me that setting up a new charity is not realistically an option.
