I'm working with a charity who are planning a series of donor acquisition events - to sign up payroll givers (within warm corporates) and committed givers through Direct Debit (at small family festival type events). We have been given a volume of retro toys to hand out to people who sign up to a regular gift as a thank you and hope to have an engaging display to draw people in. We're planning to do this in house to save costs of working with an agency.
Has anyone had any experience of face-to-face donor acquisition at these type of events? Any general tips to share?
Specifically, I need to try to work out projected income for the events and need to estimate the following:
- how many people each fundraiser would sign up in an hour / day (I'm estimating 1 per hour)
- mean average monthly gift (estimating £5 per month)
- what proportion of Direct Debit gifts would be giftaidable (estimating 85%)
- what proportion would go on to make their first payment (estimating 63% for DDs, presumably higher for payroll giving?)
- what would be the attrition rate in the first year and subseaquent months (currently estimating 50% donor loss by the end of the first year then 1% per month thereafter, but 50% in first year isn't very scientific)
Does anyone have any more reliable estimations of the above that they could provide, or suggestions of alternative approaches to the income estimation, and any general feedback of the success or otherwise of donor acquisition events?
Many thanks,
Emma
