Help needed for storing charity photographs

Our charity purchased Portfolio 8.5 approximately 3 years ago to handle our increasing number of photos. It has been running on PCs only and the support was not renewed. The charity has changed over the years and recently it has become obvious that access to the photo library needs to be extended to all staff (30+).

Our staff work on a range of IT equipment – 50% work off thin client boxes (igels), 30% on laptops and 20% on PCs. All of these connect to a virtualised server running Windows Server 8.

Could any recommend a photographic storage system that could handle our specifications to build our photo library?

One major consideration would also be that we are situated in rural Wiltshire and our BT line speed is very poor. There are no plans for BT to change things in the next two years. We are concerned that if we go to a web based product, that accessing the photos via the web will slow down the rest of the traffic.

We’d be extremely grateful for any advice/suggestions/guidance anyone could give us with this.
