Using funds raised to cover costs

Hello,

Being a keen traveller, something I've always dreamed about doing is attemping to go around the world in 80 days. I'd obviously also want to use the opportunity to raise money for charity.

Despite the fact that I'd be attempting to do it on as low a budget as possible, it is likely to cost me more than I can realistically afford.

What sort of options do I have regarding using a set amount from the funds I raise to cover some/all of the costs. I've raised money for charity in the past, but only through activities that have had no outgoing expenses. I have no idea whether covering costs with raised funds is common practice or if it is considered unacceptable, or even unlawful! I can't help but feel that pessimistic people may question my intentions, regardless of how much money I eventually raised.

Any advice will be welcome. Thanks
