I'm working as a VSO Volunteer for a year in Nairobi, Kenya. I'm working with a small Kenyan organisation here - basically a group of special needs professionals who are aiming to improve services and support to children with disabilities, particularly in low income areas of Kenya (eg. slums).
I'm not a fundraiser, so I'm asking for any help, tips, suggestions, links, advice etc. Basically, our organisation is currently almost entirely volunteer-based. We just have one paid staff member - an office manager. We have long term ambitions to become a professional NGO, but how do you make that transition?
Crucially, I think we need some funding to build our internal capacity - essentially so that we can employ paid staff who can then provide the capacity and continuity to take the organisation forwards. But how do you get that kind of funding? So much of it is for service delivery? Are there sources of funding that can help me? Any ideas?
