Corporates want their pound of flesh

At a recent CSR presentation by a UK bank, I was struck by the highly commercial attitude this company is taking to its community involvement.

Fundraising is not for wimps

At first, I felt dreadfully sorry for the fundraiser (as reported in Third Sector a few days ago) who was so upset by abusive phone calls from members of the public that she quit not just her job but left the whole charity sector. It’s not the first time that I’ve heard about a member of the public being so obnoxious that they’ve reduced a fundraiser to tears. In fact, it happened to someone I know just a couple of days ago.

When I hear the word innovation I reach for my gun – ok so my holster is pretty worn out but …

Why do grant-makers:

1.	prefer innovation to ‘tried and trusted’,
2.	then decline truly innovative projects because the results are uncertain,
read more »

Planning and hosting a great event

I’ve been working on a few events with a well-known charity recently and it made me realise what a specific science event planning and hosting is. Having organised event for years, I almost take for granted the various stages which are critical to ensuring success but meeting with less experienced folks was a wake up call. We often invest significant sums of money and time in events programmes so getting it right is crucial.

As branding and re-branding become more popular, are charities creating stronger brands or, are they just giving themselves a ‘design and copy makeover’?
