  • Iona Community chooses thankQ

Glasgow-based The Iona Community has chosen thankQ for its CRM to help it manage its membership data and communications.

The Community began looking for a new CRM solution in April 2011. It has Members, Associate Members, Friends and Volunteers, so needed a system that could handle these various relationships and their different activities, and the fact that often people had multiple roles.

The Christian charity also holds regular events and meetings, both in the UK and further afield, produces a broad range of resources and runs a retail operation.

It wanted to ensure that its new CRM integrated with its website, so that the charity could provide a facility for members to update their details, book and pay for events, and to manage their membership online.

Robert Swinfen, Support services Manager at The Iona Community said: "Our membership is diverse and complex and our primary concerns were whether we could get the functionality we needed at a price we could afford. thankQ is based on commonly used office systems, so it looks and feels familiar, but the functionality is seriously impressive. This gave us the reassurance we needed, and at the right price."

The National Lottery’s 2012 Games hot air balloon comes to Cardiff

If you have received National Lottery funding for a project in the past year you can enter it for the National Lottery Awards, the annual celebration of the impact that Lottery funding is having on transforming communities.

It is a chance to secure national coverage for your project and the people involved. The entrants that make it to the finals will receive national recognition at an event, broadcast on BBC One, later this year. They will also have a chance to win a £2,000 cash prize.

The National Lottery Awards have seven categories, each reflecting an area of Lottery funding: Arts, Education, Environment, Health, Heritage, Sport and Voluntary/Charity.

Since the National Lottery began in 1994, over £27 billion has been invested in Good Causes across the UK. Each week ticket sales generate £30 million for good causes.

Entries must be received by 17.00 on 12 March 2012.

Kitchen manufacturer Belling, which celebrates its centenary this year, has chosen Anthony Nolan as its charity of the year. The company aims to raise at least £10,000 for the charity.

Anthony Nolan was selected after a staff and public vote against five other national charities - Barnardo’s, Shelter, Help for Heroes, Marie Cure Cancer Care and Trussell Trust Foodbanks. Anthony Nolan received almost 3,000 votes during the three-week long poll.

The manufacturer aims to raise the £10,000 target from staff fundraising and a contribution from sales of a product range created especially for its 100th year.

The Starbucks Youth Action funding programme, which will support projects in Dublin and Belfast, is seeking applications for 2012.

The programme aims to inspire and empower young people from Dublin and Belfast and a number of UK cities to make a difference in their communities through seed funding and volunteer work from Starbucks staff. The programme also offers training to young people on managing a budget, working with volunteers and project management.

The programme offers funding of up to €2000 to groups that work with people aged 16-24 who have a good idea for a project that will have an impact on young people and the local community.

In 2011 Starbucks awarded more than 100 grants totalling $2.6 million to organisations around the world to inspire and support youth action in their local markets.

Starbucks' original goal was to engage 50,000 young people to innovate and create action in their communities by 2015 and this target was achieved some years ago.

Groups can find application details on the Irish Youth Foundation’s website. Completed applications should be sent to StarbucksYouthAction@iyf.ie. The closing date is 5 March 2012.

  • Royal Mail Group awarded Guinness World Record for payroll giving

Guinness World Record certificate for Royal Mail Group

Royal Mail Group has been awarded the Guinness World Record title for the most registered charities supported through a Payroll Giving scheme. With around 42,000 employees giving to charities directly from their payroll, the Group's payroll giving staff account for 6% of all payroll givers in the UK.

In the 23 years since payroll giving was introduced at the company, Royal Mail Group employees have given £45 million to 975 registered charities via the scheme. Over £2 million has been raised in the last year alone. One in four of the Group's employees are signed up to give via this tax-effective method.

The 975 charities consist of a wide range of organisations, and includes the Royal Mail Group's own charity, the Rowland Hill Benevolent Fund.

Royal Mail Group received the Guinness World Records official certificate at a special ceremony in London.

Chief Executive Officer, Moya Greene, said: "Our postmen and women play a vital and trusted role in every community across the UK. I am delighted that our postmen and women have been recognised as the world’s best for donating to charity direct from their pay."
