Submitted by howardlake on 9 April, 2008 - 15:39.

The first London Health Commission Awards have been established to recognise the contribution to health and well-being made by small community-based organisations and groups.

The 2008 awards will focus on community action on health and well-being for groups with an annual turnover of less than £100,000 and have achievements in one of six categories.

Winners will receive a series of prizes including training, support with website development and maintenance and a promotional film about their project as well as a prize of £1,000. The package of prizes was developed following consultation with community groups about what would they would value most.

The six award categories are cohesive communities, partnership achievement with the NHS, community campaigning and advocacy, partnership achievement with business, mental well-being, and partnership achievement with local government.

The deadline for applications is 30 April 2008.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on 2 July 2008 to be held at London's Living Room on the 9th floor of City Hall.

Elizabeth Manero, London Health Commission Member and Director of Health Link, said: "We want to recognise the work by communities taking place across London to promote health and well-being and make sure others recognise it too.

"We encourage as many groups as possible to enter – you don't have to be a large well-organised group. You could be just a few people working together who can show they are making a difference to people's health and well-being – we want to hear from you."
