David Thorne, Community Fundraising Manager for Kidney Research UK for 10 years, has died aged 54.
He was a long-serving committee member and treasurer of the Institute of Fundraising Yorkshire. In an announcement today to members, fellow committee members said "David will be remembered by many for his enthusiasm, good humour and his tireless contribution to many causes, including IoF Yorkshire".
A tribute fund has already been set up in his memory and has attracted donations and personal messages and tributes to him.
On the page, Regional Manager Karen Whyman, recalled how David had driven the support vehicle each year from Blackpool to Paris for the charity's Tower to Tower Cycle Ride. When he reached 50, he decided to cycle the route himself "whilst continuing to give a running commentary each evening in [his] unique comedic style. One cyclist said he couldn't wait for the evenings to arrive and the cycling was getting in the way".
A memorial service will be held on Saturday 9 January 2010 at 11am, St Oswald's Church, Sowerby, near Thirsk.

Packed church at David Thorne's funeral
Pleased to hear of a very good turnout at David Thorne's funeral today, despite considerable travel difficulties due to the snow. According to Graham Richards on Twitter, there were around 200 people at the church.
