Following last month's successful pilot scheme of a £250,000 fund for local charities in the South West of England, the Santander Foundation has launched a £1.23 million fund to support local charities helping disadvantaged people across the UK.
Santander Community Plus will provide grants of up to £5,000. It is open to small local charities or local projects of national charities with the funding available to cover salaries, equipment or materials. It is open only to charities registered in the UK.
How to apply
Applications can be made by visiting any one of Santander’s 1,300 branches and completing a short nomination form, which can then be dropped off in the special Community Plus postbox in the branch.
Nominations can be made by charities as well as Santander customers and staff. There are no closing dates and entries will be "regularly considered" by a panel of staff drawn from across the region. Successful charities will be notified within two months of submitting their nomination.
Alan Eagle, Santander Foundation Manager, said: “We have been delighted by the response to Community Plus across the South West. There is a real appetite for small grants to help build local projects so we have decided to bring forward the launch of the nationwide scheme, which was originally scheduled for next year.
“Through the Santander Foundation we make hundreds of donations every year to good causes around the UK for education and financial capability projects. This new fund has been set up to support a broader range of initiatives, along with a quick and simple application process specifically designed for small charities.”
