Depaul Trust shortlisted in New Media Age awards

The Depaul Trust was shortlisted for the Special Award for Innovation in the New Media Age Effectiveness Awards 2003.

The Trust was shortlisted along with its agency Publicic Dialog Group for its V.O.D.K.A. campaign. This was a DRTV advert designed to raise awareness of homeless people and raise funds.

The winner of the innovation category was Shazam Entertainment.

Refugee Council uses viral e-mail about immigrants

The Refugee Council has launched a viral e-mail campaign to highlight the contribution refugees make to the UK.

The campaign includes a viral game developed by consultancy Fishburn Hedges. It asks "what have refugees ever done for us?" and gives examples of refugees such as Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud.

Winner of charities category in NMA Effectiveness Awards 2003

The Consumers' Association has won the Charities Award in the New Media Age Effectiveness Awards 2003.

The organisation won for its endowmentaction.co.uk campaign implemented by agency Green Cathedral. "This is a good example of what other charities should be doing," said the judges. "The CA has managed to explain complex information in a way that's accessible to all."

Bloom Media creates fundraising Web site for free

It is still possible for charities to acquire a Web site at no charge, as international charity Facing The World has just demonstrated.

Leeds-based Bloom Media has developed free of charge a fundraising Web site for the charity that offers assistance to children from around the world who suffer from facial disfigurements.

Mental health care charity Rethink is testing 240,000 inserts in The Guardian during June to capitalise on its national awareness week.

Charities rely increasingly on government funding, says CAF

Income growth amongst the top 500 fundraising charities in the UK has witnessed a shift towards greater reliance on Government sources, according to new research by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

Voluntary income among the top charities reached £3.3 billion in 2001-02, but this represents only a modest growth of £178 million or 2.2% in real terms over two years.
