US foundations giving internationally through "Friends of" groups

Certain US private foundations can and do give internationally to particular charities. Some, however, have begun to give internationally through a "Friends of" organisation.

Shelter secure corporate support via the Net

Shelter are happy with their Internet presence. As well as donations their site has generated corporate support. According to Claire Griffin, "Motorola looked at our website, contacted us with a donation and a partnership has been established."

Total fundraising up by 11% in one year

Total income of the UK's top 500 fundraising charities grew by 11% in real terms between 1995/96 and 1996/97, according to figures released today from Dimensions of the Voluntary Sector 1998.

US fundraising grows too

Charitable giving in the USA increased by 7% last year, according to Giving USA 1998. Non-profits received a total of $143 billion in donations

Heavenly fundraising - humour

A doctor, a lawyer, and a fundraiser arrive at the Pearly Gates at about the same time. St. Peter tells them that they each may have one thing to take with them into Heaven. The doctor is first, and she asks for $1 million. This is given, and she enters Heaven. Her example is not lost on the lawyer, who asks for $2 million!

Trading places

The Barclays/NGO Finance Charity 100 Index reports that charities which compete head on with the private sector in commercial trading are reaping big rewards. Net income from trading for the UK's largest charities, is now well over £100 million a year and has more than doubled since 1992, including a sharp rise in the latest year of more than 18 per cent.
