Comic Relief total

Comic Relief announced their total income from last year's fundraising telethon. The nationwide event raised £27,001,269, the most they have ever raised. Plans are already underway for next year's event, scheduled to take place on 12th March 1999. More details from red@comicrelief.org.uk.

Land mine charities slow to receive grants

The Director of the Mines Advisory Group claimed that organisations that remove land-mines from the ground had not yet received a penny towards their work from the Diana, Princess of Wales' Memorial Fund. Lou McGrath is reported in The Independent as expressing concern that the fund is "becoming an industry in itself and is not solving the problem".

A special fundraising service in a Bradford church has raised £600,000 in two hours. One third was given in cash and the remainder pledged from sales of shares, cars, jewellery and other valuables.
