Survey finds US grantmakers' use of IT is basic

A new survey of foundations and corporate giving programs reveals that grantmakers use basic electronic communications technology such as the phone, fax and personal computer, but are not yet making full use of computer and Internet capabilities that might benefit them.

Charities have spotted the possibility of gaining free press coverage in the various Internet magazines. Shelter has secured a free listing of its Shelter Week in this month's net. magazine's calendar of events. .net magazine is read by 42,814 people according to auditors ABC.

Barnardo's has established a temporary site and are looking for sponsorship to help fund a permanent presence on the Internet. NCVO "supersite" planned

NCVO is planning to produce an expanded and enhanced Web site to provide a more comprehensive service to its member organisations and to the UK voluntary sector. It has appointed the Turquoise Consultancy to design the new site.

Selling books online for charity

Bookpages are promoting their branch manager scheme to fundraising charities. Charities can sell books related to their work via their Web site and link into the online catalogue, transaction and distribution system of Bookpages. For every book sold via the link on the charity's site, Bookpages will pay the charity a 10% finder's fee.

Internet fundraising is clearly not worthy of accolades from ICFM and Professional Fundraising magazine. The joint sponsors of the ICFM Professional Fundraising Awards, which were launched in 1993, offer awards for a range of fundraising activities and categories. You can, for example, win an award for most effective use of the telephone.

The Foremost charity site

Print and design company Foremost has launched Charity UK, "the complete resource for UK charities and fundraisers." They publish a list of fundraising ideas [formerly at http://www.foremost.u-net.com/funds.html], some current appeals [formerly at http://www.foremost.u-net.com/appeals.html], and a list of other Net resources for UK charities and fundraisers.

Millennium Commission launches Web site

The Millennium Commission has launched a Web site that lets fundraisers view details of all capital projects funded so far. You can view the also view the 185 projects by county.
