Charity wins domain name battle

The US Planned Parenthood charity has won a court case regarding the www.plannedparenthood.com domain name. The US Second Court of Appeals upheld an injunction issued in March 1997 that prevented an anti-abortion activist from using the plannedparenthood.com domain.

The Imperial Cancer Research Fund has unleashed Cupid [formerly at http://www.icnet.uk/cupid/] to bring joy to lovers as St Valentine's Day draws near, and to raise some funds at the same time. Donors can send any of five e-mail Valentine's cards to their loved one, in return for a suggested donation of £5.

Giving Magazine will be holding focus groups for interested charity leaders and fundraisers to help develop a new donor-driven magazine in the UK.

DIY planned giving Web site

The Planned Giving Design Center offers nonprofits a way to enhance their planned giving promotion on the Web.

Nonprofits can link to the Center's Web site which can be customised to appear as if it were part of the nonprofit's Web site. The publishers then provide extensive information on planned giving, including model planned gift forms, via the nonprofit's site.

Good marketing yields market goods

The Museum of London has received a donation via the Internet. The gift was not monetary but took the form of early 20th century documents and artefacts that had belonged to a Smithfields market butcher. The donation was made by the butcher's son, who is now retired and lives in Portland, Oregon.
