Oxfam in Gift Aid telemarketing campaign

Oxfam has appointed The Listening Company to handle a telemarketing campaign to secure uptake of the Gift Aid scheme.

The call centre business will be contacting 20,000 Oxfam supporters who have yet to opt in to the Gift Aid scheme.

The series covers key aspects of working in the voluntary sector from communication and management skills to diversity issues, team leadership and health and safety matters.

Leonard Cheshire to benefit from RHS Show

Leonard Cheshire will benefit from the exclusive Charity Gala Preview Evening at this year's RHS Hampton Court Flower Show which runs from 8 to 13 July 2003.

The charity expects to raise more than £15,000 at evening on 7 July at Hampton Court through advance ticket sales and a prize raffle.

National BBQ week to benefit Variety Club

The 7th National BBQ Week will be held this year from 19th -26th May to raise funds for the Variety Club Children's Charity.

As nominated charity, the Variety Club hopes to raise £1 million from "the UK's biggest celebration of outdoor eating."

Official sponsors of this year's event include Foster's, Blue Nun, Bird's Eye and British Meat.

Today is the sixth anniversary of Michael Gilbert's Nonprofit Online News, one of the better-informed and incisive online news digests of the non-profit sector.

Although focused on the US, Nonprofit Online News articles are regularly of direct relevance to voluntary organisations in other countries.

New Royal Patron for Shaftesbury Society

Her Royal Highness, the Princess Royal, has become the Royal Patron of the Shaftesbury Society.

"It will be a great encouragement to our service users, carers and all those who support our work," said the charity's Chief Executive, Mary Bishop.

New list broker at Occam

Occam has appointed Martina Nertney as Senior List Broker working alongside Liz Moss.

Martina joins Occam from HLB and has over five years' experience of list broking working with clients such as Oxfam, RSPB and British Heart Foundation. She will be responsible for list broking enquiries and will help further develop Occam's List Broking service.

Institute of Fundraising launches National Convention

The Institute of Fundraising has announced the programme for the 2003 National Convention to be held in Birmingham form 7-9 July 2003.


The first day features 34 in-depth workshops, which must be booked in advance. The convention also has a new set of longer sessions aimed at senior fundraisers, and there are also some leading speakers from the USA and Canada.
