New website to match projects with wealthy philanthropists

Submitted by howardlake on 19 July, 2007 - 00:00.

In September the Reed Foundation will launch a website designed to help wealthy individuals keen to donate between £100,000 to £10 million find an appropriate charitable project. TheBigGive.org.uk will feature projects from a range of charities, and would-be donors will be able to search them by amount, geographic location, and type of organisation.

The Reed Foundation is to contact the top 20,000 charities to inform them of the service offered by the site. Charities will not be charged to upload project details. The Foundation will also be contacting wealthy individuals and holding events for would-be donors.

Alec Reed, founder of the Reed recruitment company, will put his money where his mouth is and donate £1 million via the site in its first year.

A partnership with private banking firm Coutts & Co will also help the service reach key wealthy individuals.
