I'd like to know how major gifts people 'out there' would rank and prioritise
a database of large givers (over C$5000 per gift) with large lifetime values
(one exceeds $150000), but where the recency of gifts varies from 2002 to
1997 and the number of gifts varies from 1 to 30.

Re: John Rodd's question on ranking major donors: I would estimate their
ages if possible, and rank the oldest donors of recent large gifts as my top
priority for attention, as planned gift prospects. In fact, with a
population as described, I'd give priority to all the seniors first; after
all, someone who gave $5K 5 years ago is still probably worth more gifts of
that caliber--but if a senior, you've got fewer years available to
cultivate.

I think it is difficult to draw a conclusion based on that level of info -
would prefer to look at correlations between factors such as frequency and
recency - and a few other criteria - e.g. lengths of time individual donors
had been contributing.
