TECHNOLOGY> AppealMaster -> Raiser's Edge database?

I wonder if anyone who uses the database Appeal Master has been
considering converting to Raiser's Edge. Appeal Master has been bought
out by Blackbaud and it appears that support will eventually be phased
out.....leaving us with the option of continuing to use Appeal Master
but without technical support, coverting to Raiser's Edge (at a
discount) or having to start over with a new database.
I would be interested in hearing if anyone is in the same situation or
has already taken the next step.
Thanks.

I welcome any newcomers into the database market, not least because any
near-monopoly position is not healthy. However, I saw one US system on show
at the recent IDPE database fair and they were offering absolutely no
support at all. I also remember the problems back in 1990(ish) when
Raiser's Edge was first introduced in terms of covenants and Gift Aid,
postcodes, VAT .......

If new US products are introduced, I will want to be very very sure that
these teething problems have been sorted out and support is available before
recommending them to my clients.

I note that the US package Donor Perfect is now to be introduced into the UK,
and I cannot believe that they will not have a lot to offer. I work a lot in
Canada where we see Donor Perfect in English and French versions and where
organisation large (UNICEF Canada) and small use it and like it.

As a fellow AppealMaster client, we are in the same situation. We have had a
presentation of the new Raiser's Edge, and it is, as David Baker said, a
very good database. However we have also asked other fundraising software
providers to give presentations and have found that there are viable
alternatives to Raiser's Edge. We are still in the process of deciding, but
I would recommend you shop around. Please feel free to email me directly if
you would like more information on the other packages we have seen.

We are in the same position. But have had a look at the new product offered.
Raisers Edge does have all the contact management capability of Appeal
Master - but is a far better database product - honest!
However it will still cost you to convert. We are planning to do so when we
have some cash available!
