Can staff enter competitions?

Submitted by Forum_Admin on 30 June, 2004 - 15:58.

We are planning a Prize Draw, inviting supporters to make a pledge for £10 per month for 2 years. In return they are entered into a Draw for a donated prize i.e. A week in New York! Does anyone know whether there are any legal implications about members of staff entering? I know that with businesses often employees cannot take advantage of competitions and offers but I wasn't sure whether it also applied to charities. Any thoughts would be most welcome!

Re: Can staff enter competitions?

The legal situation is that staff can participate provided that the promotor is willing to permit that. Usually staff and their families are excluded from competions to ward off any possibility of skullduggery. However with a fundraiser which is purely a game of chance and that can be well supervised it should be perfectly OK. When I was the named promotor of the Arthritis Care and Leonard Cheshire draws I certainly encouraged staff and volunteers to buy loads of tickets. I (and my family) however did not participate to avoid any accusation of "fix"

Go for it.
