Hello there
I am looking for some advice as to best practice. We have been offered a legacy from a beneficiary who is in difficult financial circumstances. She has asked for help with her solicitor's fees from the Elizabeth Finn Trust. I'd like some advice from people who have been in this situation, obviously I am concerned about undue influence and on the other hand rejecting a gift.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Legacies from beneficiaries
Key is though, you CANNOT insist upon a legacy, whoever pays the cost of writing the will. Some thoughts though, lots of solicitors will consider writing charitable wills pro bona, or in return for a charitable donation. If the will is simple there are reputable will writing services that are very cost effective.
Some charities like CRUK do pay the will costs but as stated it's not recommended. However offering help, support and information is to be applauded!
Re: Legacies from beneficiaries
The IoF's leaflet suggests that it's legal, but discouraged, and there are several precautions they suggest you take, which broadly cover getting a statement of their intention to leave a legacy in writing before paying for the solicitor, and making the various responsibilities very clear.
