Does anybody have any experience of fundraising in Hong Kong. Do UK charities need to register with the HK authorities before undertaking fundraising activities there?

You may fundraising in Hong Kong without gaining Hong Kong Government approval but you will not be eligible to receive any sort of tax deduction or such. International and local organisations do seek such approval for their donors to receive tax deductions. Any further questions do let me know.

Try contacting the Resource Alliance, the "international network working to build the capacity of not-for-profit organisations to mobilise funds and local resources for their causes."
They have an Asia Pacific regional group, one of whose committee members is based in Hong Kong. They offer events and other activities:
