Acquiring donated goods via Colchester Freecycle

Following my news item about the benefits of seeking donated goods from your local community via the Freecycle network

I can confirm that it worked well for me. I offered a shower rail kit via the Colchester network, got four expressions of interest within three hours, and this morning the lucky recipient came to collect it.
The Colchester Freecycle network runs using the Yahoo! Groups system and there are over 300 members. So, if you're looking for something to be donated eg. PC monitor, desk, chair, fridge etc, I'd suggest trying it. There's no charge to join and all items offered are donated - there is no charge for them.

There's a new similar service being set up which charities in Essex might find useful, although it is aimed at the general public.

You can locate items by category or by using the postcode search.
The site is not quite live, I believe, so I can't comment on its use or take-up.
It is supported by en-form the Colchester Environment Centre, Chelmsford Environment Partnership (CEP), Essex Community Recycling and Reuse Network (ECORRN), and Essex County Council.

Nice to see another similar service, but a quick check to see if there was anything available for/by Colchester fundraisers (the subject of this sub-category forum), and the nearest item was 81 km away in London's Golders Green.
Clearly people can post things to recipients, but clearly Freecycle operates on a much more local basis ie. there are local Freecycle networks rather than the single national model that GreenGonzo uses.
Still GreenGonzo is certainly another useful tool for fundraisers in other areas.

Freecycle is an excellent idea, but there's an eaiser way now which cuts out a lot of the hassle. Check out GreenGonzo, a new website at [url]http://www.greengonzo.com.[/url] It provides a searchable database so you can just enter a keyword and find what you need.
