Hello,
My name is Johannes Lungenschmied and I did mainly direct fundraising, asking people and writing letters, for a project in South Africa for 5 years.
Due to the ever increasing number of orphans in South Africa, my wife and I, decided to work and raise funds for our own project.
We started a so called One Million Dollar Challenge on the internet, a blog supporting our ideas and direct fundraising efforts. We know it is difficult to establish trust over the internet, but we try every way we can to raise funds.
My question is, I'm a so called single person trying to raise funds. I did all legal stuff within my country Austria, where I try to raise funds. My wife and kids are in SA at the moment.
I would like to know, what can a single person do, to become more recognised for his/her efforts? Can I register somewhere as NGO or NPO? The information I got here in Austria are very poor.
Trying to raise funds as a single person and for a project not established yet is, I guess, the most difficult task I ever tried, but if I know, that many tried it before me, otherwise there wouldn't be founders of projects and organisations.
My other question is, due to the fact, that we are not marketing a product, it is really difficult for us to get people to our webpage. Any ideas on that? I'm a webdesigner, but get people donate for something, where they don't get anything in return is really taff, especially over the internet.
Any suggestions, any ideas please write them to my email at J.Lungenschmied@gmx.at or challenge@8ung.at and for people interested talking directly to us, phone at +436649458068.
Our internetaddress is http://www.8ung.at/challenge
Thanks in advance for any ideas
God bless

RE: I fell in love in and with South Africa
Hallo Johannes :)
and everyone else.. i am a complete newbie to this site and only registered today...
I am (together with a friend, who is in South Africa) also starting a project here in the U.K. in aid of south african newborn babies. Our aim is to provide each mother of a newborn baby in the Kwa Zulu Natal region with a basic baby pack containing essential items such as clothing, blanket, nappies etc.
I have in the last two weeks gone from being overwhelmed with offers of support to being totally depressed about the "chasing one's own tail" situation with regards to getting registered as a charity.
Through endless phone calls did i manage to secure a rather large fund which will provide us with the main chunk of the £1000 needed to register.
Now.. what does all this have to do with your project? I noticed that you mentioned more traffic to your site.. we also have website www.babybearproject.tk (it is unfortunately beyond us to go with a proper service provider) but i thought you might be interested in a banner exchange? I may also be in a position to give your project more exposure here in the U.K. due to some contacts i have made over the last two weeks.
If any of these are helpful to you, please get in touch.
Viel Glueck und ich hoffe, dass es auch euch bald gelingt einen substantiellen sponsor zu finden!!
