Hi,

Does anyone know whether there is a National Will Week this year or has it been and gone?

Thanks

Pat

RE: National Will Week

Following on from National Will Week, does anyone know when National Legacy Week is next year?

RE: National Will Week

The last "Free Wills Fortnight" was in September 2006 and there's nothing on their website indicating anything for 2007. The next "WillAid" is scheduled for 2008 - so perhaps there's an opportunity for someone to form a new consortium?

RE: National Will Week

Does anyone know if there is a National Will week planned for 2007 and is so when it is (I'm assuming some time in October). Cheers Zoe

RE: National Will Week

Third Sector reported this new initiative on 7th September:

A consortium of 10 charities has been formed in a bid to persuade more people to leave legacies to good causes.
Schemes that encourage people to write wills, both free and paid-for, have been run by individual charities before. But the campaign, Free Wills Fortnight, is the first time such a coalition has been established to help people get their wills written for free.
The charities involved are Age Concern England, Barnardo's, the Blue Cross, the British Lung Foundation, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Diabetes UK, Plan UK, the Royal British Legion, Sense and the Stroke Association.
The campaign, which will run from 16 to 30 September, will offer members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their wills written or updated for nothing, using the services of participating firms of solicitors in England and Wales.
Although there is no obligation on those who take up the offer to leave a charity gift in their will, and no requirement that legacies must be to members of the scheme, it is hoped the project will still generate pledges for the signed-up charities.
The scheme was created by Stephen Maund, managing director of Capacity Marketing for Charities, which has previously run free-will campaigns for individual organisations.

So I guess there is a campaign this year!

RE: National Will Week

Hi Howard

Thank you for the information.
If there is no National Will Week - how about a National Free Will Week?

Our organisation already sells Will forms. We have come up with the idea of provide free Wills and in return encouraging the public to make either an immediate donation to a list of participating charities or a suggested legacy in their Will. The legacy would be for a small sum, say £10 - but it all adds up.

We can arrange all the Will forms on our side, they would be available via our website.

We think its a good idea.
Do you think charities would be interested?

regards

Patrick

RE: National Will Week

I'm not aware of one this year. I couldn't find anything on the Law Society's website about it. Certainly the next Will Aid month isn't until November 2006:
