Hello,
Would anyone be able to share tips on developing a legacy strategy? I work for a charity that has never had such a document and it would be really helpful to get some guidance on how other orgs have gone about developing their strategy. It would be helpful to see an outline even if you facts and figures are confidential.
many thanks
Terri

RE: Legacy fundraising strategy help
James is right that George is a cracking read. Also on your must list if you're serious is: Legacy Fundraising edited by Sebastian Wilberforce and available through the DSC (via this website if you like). One tip if you're really starting from scratch. You don't need a guide to making a will!!! What you do need is a strong case for support as to why your supporters could/must write you into their wills. Start from there.
RE: Legacy fundraising strategy help
The most useful reference on legacy strategy I've come across is actually a dozen-odd pages in George Smith's "Asking Properly" - I think I've eulogised it in a previous thread, but there's enough good advice in there to make a summary impractical, I'm afraid. It's an excellent book - good for blowing away the "we've always done it this way" cobwebs!
