Could anyone point in me in a starting direction!!?
I am doing some volunteer work for a Yorkshire based charity that is implementing a project in Ethiopia to look at tackling the problem of famine.
Can anyone recommend weblinks or books that I may find helpful? At present, the project has yet to be implemented, so we need small grants or legacies or other to get the project set up overseas. Then we can look at larger grants and funds.
We are also getting a website up and running to help with marketing.
Please correct me if I am wrong-I am an extreme novice at this!
I am doing searches on the internet but have yet to find much and I'll be taking a trp to the library to plough through the grant books there too. Any other pointers gratefully received!
Thanks

You're in for an interesting time! The book reviews on this site are probably a good starting point, and www.dsc.org.uk has plenty to read.
But it sounds like something that's likely to be very, very hard to fund through grants from trusts unless you can explain why it's going to be more effective than funding the large charities that not only work locally in the targeted countries, but also work nationally as well as taking an overview of entire continents, tackling famine at many, many levels. You'll probably need to make the case for having both experienced staff on the ground, and some seriously good planning at the UK end. The big NGOs put out serious policy papers on the subject - Oxfam lists a Nobel laureate as an adviser, so it's pretty high-level stuff!
As for legacies - when are you planning to start the project? There are only two ways to have a remotely predictable legacy income: one is to have an awful lot of pledges and some history on your particular cause's pledge redemption rate, and the second will get you arrested after the first few times...
