I started as the first and only fundraiser for an NHS Trust 5 weeks ago. At present i have no budget, target or database, and am trying to gather information from across the trust as to the current situation with regards the level of fundraising. This is my first job after University. I have done a little fundraising whilst at University in my part-time job.
i would really appreciate any help, tips and advice on where to aim for (thoughts on what to avoid would of course also be very helpful.
Thanks
Claire

RE: Just starting out
If it's a Hospital NHS Trust that you've joined, welcome to hospital fundraising, considered by some to be the noblest form of the art!
While I'm not particularly new to fundraising, I am new to hospital fundraising so as yet can't offer much pithy advice. But it sounds like you're on the right lines already in that you're seeing the need for a budget, a target and a database.
I'd encourage you to get support from your peers. As well as keeping tabs on discussions on this site, join the hospital fundraising special interest group of the Institute of Fundraising, by going to the relevant page on their website. Also join any other Institute special interest groups that might be helpful to you (the charitable trust fundraising group is particularly helpful at the minute).
Feel free to contact me direct if you'd like to talk further. Good luck!
RE: Just starting out
Hi Claire,
Just a few words of encouragement in your first post after uni.
Although the brief sounds a little challenging from your post, you have found a great place to start here at this site.
Check through the forum, and past posts under the headings to get a feel for the challenges faced.
By all means sound out some ideas with me when you wish to, and keep challenging the Trust for information and support. Don't let them make you think it is solely your responsibility to fundraise.
Have a look at the Institute of Fundraising website as there are many useful links and special interest groups to join online as well.
All the best
Jase
